ALL IN THE DETAILS: Tweed

Tweed has been all the rage since the dawn of Coco Chanel’s iconic tweed suits. There’s nothing quite exquisite as the look of a Chanel tweed jacket, dress or skirt, as it embodies the female in an empowering way. This rugged, yet durable fabric has become the epitome of class. Thanks to Karl Lagerfeld, tweed remains the foundation of the fashion house and this legendary look has been carried on for the past few decades in his collections and on the runway.

This Fashionista was walking in the midst of snow flurries sporting a tweed coat with black sleeves that oozed sophistication. Although it may not be Chanel, her coat immediately caught my eye. The two different elements of texture and the belted waist were distinctive qualities that you don’t normally find on campus. She paired this with a patterned scarf, dark wash jeans and tall lace-up combat boots. The monochromatic scheme of her outfit created a polished, put together look.

How To: If you ever want to master a sophisticated look, you cannot go wrong with tweed. Since the fabric is known to be resistant to wind and water and holds excellent insulating properties, tweed outerwear is the way to go, especially with the unpredictable winter weather. You can pair this with just about anything that is black, which will act as complements to your coat. However, tweed does not necessarily have to be categorized with the common definition of sophistication, as it can be downplayed by wearing ripped jeans at the knee.
