ALL IN THE DETAILS: Top It Off

Let’s face it, this winter has been brutal. The days are short and the temperature is (way too) low. Trying to find the inspiration to pick out an outfit when it is so cold you do not even want to get out of bed can be quite the task. On days like this, you can make life a little easier by sticking to a monochromatic look and letting a hat be the statement piece and focal point of your outfit.

This Fashionista has mastered the art of the statement hat. Her simple look consisted of all black with minimal gold detail, but she added the red floppy hat and it completely transformed her look. There are so many great hats out there that can add spunk and character to a look, while also covering up a bad hair day (I know you were thinking it). Free People has an amazing selection of statement hats, and its beanies are just as noteworthy.

How To: There are so many different ways to implement a statement piece into an otherwise monochromatic look, so don’t hesitate to try it out. If you are new to hats, try something simple like this Topshop piece; it can easily be added to any outfit. If you are not much of a hat-wearer, no sweat—any accessory can make an outfit pop. My favorite take on this look is winter white from top to bottom with a pop of burgundy somewhere—whether it is your hat, shoes or bag.
