ALL IN THE DETAILS: Textured Composition

Did the Oscars leave you ecstatic and inspired last week? I don’t know about you guys, but I could not take my eyes off of the exquisite attire. I loved the solid head to toe colors, the subtle and extravagant texture added to gowns…I could go on forever; it all makes my heart sing! Though there were many trends to depict, the main one I favored and consistently noticed throughout the evening was texture. Texture is something that can be easily taken away from Hollywood and applied by any college student looking to add that extra special element to an outfit.

This Fashionista portrays the perfect look, encompassing a very popular trend at the Oscars: delicate texture. The lace-up at the back of her beautiful navy patterned dress adds a sophisticated, eloquent touch to an otherwise casual dress. The addition of black tights and heeled booties with overlapping straps are quite the fashionable pairing—not to mention, these booties are a great transitional piece for going from winter to spring (if we ever see that warm weather in Wisconsin). The chic factor is also upped by the addition of this lovely, light crème colored knit cardigan and simple tear-drop earrings. The contrast between the dress and the cardigan also really works to define and complete this outfit. Sometimes less really is more. This is a perfect, simply sophisticated, classic-casual look that fits in anywhere from work to a girl’s night out.

How To: To replicate this updated casual look, simply choose a favorite dress (or if not a dress, choose a favorite top) that contains textured detailing. Pair this dress with your favorite tights (black is classic, but colored tights are trending too—use your discretion) and throw on your favorite heeled booties. A little height never hurt anyone and it will elongate your legs! Finish off this look with simple jewelry and a light contrasting cardigan for added warmth.
