WHAT TO WEAR: Workout

Spring is here and in Chicago that means the battle between warm and cold weather has arrived. It is an awkward period of time where you don’t know how to dress because the weather can be chilly one day and warm the next. With a few months left until school is out, it’s important to stay motivated for class and the gym. Leggings, gym shoes and a light jacket are my go-to outfit for a spring workout, and luckily for me it is now a trend in the fashion world. Athleisure is the word that describes leisure and athletic clothes; it is the perfect model-off-duty look that every girl can pull off.

Athleisure trends are being seen everywhere. It’s a great style for college students who are going from class straight to the gym without looking like they’ve just rolled out of bed.

Vogue recently published an article about the five golden rules you must follow to rock this trend. It’s been seen on practically every celebrity from Kate Hudson who is the co-founder of Fabletics, an online store women can buy high quality athletic apparel from, to Kendall Jenner.

There are many ways you can replicate this look. Instead of wearing classic black lululemon leggings try wearing a print. Lululemon has many vibrant colored leggings to create a fun athleisure look. If you feel like black leggings are more realistic for your everyday look then try a pair that has mesh cut outs to add some fun to your look, like this Fashionista did.

This Fashionista is wearing gray and black cheetah print shoes that add a bold pattern to her look. Nike is a great brand that has many bright and patterned shoes you can choose from. High fashion brands are getting into the athleisure trend as well. Chanel now has couture sneakers.

You don’t have to break the bank to rock the athleisure trend, you can pay less and look like a million bucks. Stores like Target have sporty-chic printed yoga pants that are affordable. Fabletics also has great outfits sets that have this look on lock.

If you follow Vogue‘s five golden rules, you are definitely going to do this look right. Now it is acceptable to wear athletic clothes all day long even if going to the gym isn’t on your to-do list. Vogue‘s last piece of advice “when in doubt stick to neutrals” because you still will be getting the athletic sure feel.

One Simple Change: To make this look go from gym to class, accessorize with a pair of mirrored sunglasses.
