WHAT TO WEAR: Winter

The polar vortex is in full effect. Preparing for final exams has been difficult enough, but braving the cold in the morning to get to that 9AM test is even worse. It’s been a challenge to strike a balance between fashion and function in the crazy cold temperatures. Even so, the collegiate fashion community of Chicago has been tackling the task with grace.

Every Chicago resident will tell you that in order to survive the season, you must invest in a quality winter coat. Be sure to get one that has a hood, a windproof shell and, if at all possible, detachable layers. Most of the heat escapes from your head and your feet, so do your utmost to keep those dry and covered. Boots are a good way to keep the warm feelings in, while blocking snow and the ensuing frost bite out.

Make it a habit to layer your pieces for a multi-dimensional look. Stacking basic shirts, cardigans and sweaters over one another give Fashionista/os the opportunity to play with their look and keep warm. Don’t get lost in those layers though, break up the silhouette by adding belts, jewelry or your favorite statement bag.

This Fashionisto put together the perfect winter look. He balances out the layered top with a slim-fit denim jean and leather boots on the bottom. The look is divided in the middle by a navy belt and is pulled together by his textured cardigan. To combat to the cool winter temperatures, he sports a winter utility jacket and it all comes together in a perfectly toasty winter outfit.

May the warmth be with you.
