WHAT TO WEAR: Weekend Wear

April 10th, 2015 at 2:10am

The temperatures are skyrocketing and we Fashionistas are aching to get out of classes and onto the sidewalks. By the time Friday rolls around, we’re waking up early, preparing the perfect outfit and dragging ourselves to class, so that once that final hour class ends, we’ll be ready to take on the wondrous weekend. Now that it’s finally warming up, we can’t wait to get outside to explore our towns in our new spring pieces. But what happens when you’re having Fashionista-block and that perfect weekend wear outfit just isn’t coming to mind? Who can we turn to for a little fashion inspiration?

Fret not, Fashionistas—you’ve come to the right place! Here at CollegeFashionista, we thrive off of those kinds of questions. I found this Fashionista roaming campus and practically hurdled some benches to catch her, because I knew she’d be the perfect inspiration for those of us who need a little extra push on a Friday, Saturday or Sunday morning. Despite the April showers, this Fashionista is fully embracing the ambiance of spring fashion.

Pastels, of course, always come out as soon as the word “Easter” is mentioned. That said, it’s a natural choice to select a baby blue slip from Free People’s amazing array of flowy tops. The mini polka-dots pull in a fun and feminine vibe, as do the lace detailings. The cut of the slip is ruffled and flattering, making it the perfect layering piece for colder days, as well as an equally adorable top or dress for the warmer ones. If you don’t already have one, invest in one of these amazing Free People slips, because they’re not going anywhere anytime soon.

Denim is huge, as usual, so this Fashionista paired her effortless top with a light wash denim vest and cuffed dark wash skinnies to toughen the look up. The dark denim is the perfect memory of winter, which helps the lighter top transition into spring. By keeping her outfit light on top and dark on the bottom, this Fashionista provides the perfect balance for a transitioning season. So, whether it’s still a little chilly where you are, or it’s almost summertime weather, this outfit will take you anywhere your weekend plans have you going.

One Simple Change: Thinking of a girl’s night out this Saturday night? Ditch the vest and layer a darker colored, slightly cropped sweater over the slip. The detailing of the bottom of the slip will be the perfect accent to a nighttime outfit and the sweater will keep you warm when the sun goes down.
