WHAT TO WEAR: Vacation

Hola, mis amigos! Today I am writing to you live from Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic, and with the sound of ocean waves in the background and a piña colada on the way, I have nothing to complain about. I’ve spent the last few days in the Caribbean just soaking up the sun and brushing off my, how you say, español. Not only has this vacation given me much needed relaxation and family time, but I have also gotten to experience the vibrant and unique culture of this magnificent island. As I have immersed myself in and admired this new culture, I witnessed a completely different world of fashion. Dominican fashion, to me, seems to have a European twang that is casual, colorful and perfect for the island lifestyle. That being said, it is pretty easy to pick out us tourists in our favorite vacation wear, despite our pale, sunburned skin and jumbled Spanglish.

Any sort of vacation is the perfect time to whip out your favorite, fancier pieces that you may reserve for special occasions. Especially when travelling to more tropical regions, it’s sort of exciting and whimsical to put on your fancy frocks and wedge sandals to conquer the heat (and not to mention the humidity) in style. An outfit like this is perfect for those vacation days when you treat yourself to a four star restaurant meal and maybe check out the local nightlife afterward.

This Fashionista opted for a fancy, girly ensemble after a long day on the beach. Her sundress is very colorful and versatile, and its light fabric makes it perfect for warm, summer nights out. The colors of the dress pair well together, which somewhat tones down the potential busyness of the tie dye piece, and these shades of pink and blue complement her skin tone and hair color extremely well. To liven up this look, this Fashionista chose a floral bib necklace that matches the colors of the dress, a smart choice when accessorizing printed pieces. Since this Fashionista was heading to a nice restaurant, she chose a more subtle pair of nude wedge sandals, which pair nicely with her other statement pieces.

One Simple Change: This frock can be dressed down for more casual occasions, making it an ideal summer investment. Swap the wedge sandals for some flatter ones, switch the statement necklaces for some simpler jewelry pieces and you’ve got the perfect daytime look.
