WHAT TO WEAR: Tailgating

College football is back! That means that so is tailgating. Every school has different attire that is “acceptable” for game day. Here at Florida State University, we like to stay trendy while cheering on our team. Here are the top three ways to do it without being what they call “basic.”

First, every freshman makes the same mistake on first game day.FSU T-shirt and face stickers.

Yes, we all love our school, but you will stand out like a sore thumb. Not in the good “she’s so trendy” type of way. If you want to incorporate a game day T-shirt or rep your team, do it subtly. My advice would to be to pair a team crop top with high-waisted bottoms, like today’s Fashionista sports. A simple statement would be to throw on a spear necklace and earrings to accessorize.

Next, the less clothes the better!

It might not be what your mother told you, but it’s hot out there! I don’t mean let all your assets out for the world to see, but a tank top and shorts are ideal for being comfortable at an outdoor tailgate. A charming sundress or romper are always a great go to as well.

Finally, ALWAYS incorporate your team’s colors.

You don’t want to be the only one in a sea of garnet and gold wearing bright blue. White and black work, too! If you don’t have any of these colors, neutrals work as well. Slap on some gold or garnet jewelry and you have an easy fix. Thankfully, FSU colors flatter almost everybody. You really have no excuse when it comes to this one.

One Simple Change: Feel like celebrating the team’s big win? You only need one simple change to go from a day of tailgating to a night of celebrations. I would advise swapping you’re sloshed up sneakers, or now extremely dirty sandals for some booties like Alex, the featured fashionista. Game days are casual and so are the nights. Heels or wedges would be considered to fancy for the occasion, but booties are the perfect step up from casual to chic!
