WHAT TO WEAR: Tailgating

We’ve settled in to the back-to-school routine, and it’s starting to look like the best time of the year for sports fans—football season. And for everybody else, it’s tailgate season. If both are equally important to you, fall brings a great opportunity to combine your school spirit with your love of fashion.

Finding the perfect tailgate outfit takes time and a lot of consideration. The heat in eastern North Carolina doesn’t subside for game day, so cool and comfortable clothing is key early in the season. Rocking your school’s colors is even more important. Boutiques in Raleigh are full of red and black for weeks before the first game, getting students excited for kick-off. I searched high and low to find the perfect dress and could not resist this simple red beauty. I saw the ruffle at the bottom and was sold.

Here at NC State, the most important tailgate accessory for girls is the perfect pair of boots. Always comfortable and never out of style, you can’t go wrong with a pair that include a pretty inlay or embroidered detail. It felt too plain not to add a trendy piece, so I chose a wrap necklace—I love that you can style these multiple ways.

One Simple Change: Regardless of the scoreboard, there’s bound to be an after-party. Take your tailgate dress into the night by switching your boots out with some cute booties or lace-up sandals, and you’re ready to go!

Here’s to a winning season—both the tailgate and the game.
