WHAT TO WEAR: Summer

It’s finally starting to hit 100 degrees in Arkansas and no one likes the idea of piling on layers to try and look cute. It doesn’t matter if you’re out swimming or walking from your car into the grocery store: it is ridiculously hot. However, lightweight articles of clothing, such as a kimono, can make a stylish alternative.

In one of my earlier articles, I talked about the versatility of kimonos. They can be dressed up, down and any other way you could think of. Kimonos with floral patterns, such as the one being worn by this Fashionista, are great investments.

The trick to wearing kimonos is to pair them with solid colors in neutral tones. This kimono could be paired with a white summer dress for a formal occasion or with a white cami and a pair of denim shorts, as seen above, for a more causal outing.

To accessorize, the Fashionista stuck with a solid colored bag and pair of shoes seeing as the kimono held enough detailing in its floral pattern to keep the outfit interesting. One mistake I see time and time again is girls adding too many conflicting patterns to one outfit. Remember, less is more.

I should mention that until a few months ago I actually hated Michael Kors products. However, the more I see bags with MK logos, the more I fall in love. Their bold colors and sophisticatedly simple designs make them perfect bags to invest in as they will never go out of style. If it’s still hard to spend one or two hundred dollars on a bag, try experimenting with one in a similar design at a cheaper price.

ONE SIMPLE CHANGE: To get ready for back to school, try switching in a pair of skinny jeans and boots to compensate for the cooler weather and freezing classrooms.
