WHAT TO WEAR: Staying Warm While Looking Cool

January 13th, 2015 at 2:00am

Although the shortest day of the year is behind us, we unfortunately have many more freezing walks to class. To those of you in warmer climates- jealous! Winter weather, especially in New England, can be harsh and the low temperatures can torment us and force the choice between warmth and style. This doesn’t have to be the case at all. This Fashionista shows how a simple combination of winter essentials infused with some personal flair can make it bearable and even exciting to step out into the snow with style.

The belted coat this Fashionista wears is warm and fitted and has us dreaming of a summer wrap dress or beach cover up. Her rubber and leather winter boots are intense yet cool and current.  Everyone is going crazy for L.L.Bean boots this season, so these similar boots allow her to take part in the trend while still standing out from the crowd.  Finally, her matching white accessories contrast the darkness in the rest of her outfit to make it chic and modern.

The best part of this Fashionista’s look is her fun pompom hat. Adding this white hat and the matching white scarf will keep her warm while adding a fun balance to her charcoal coat, black pants and rugged boots. The key to this whole ensemble is the simplistic color palette, winter functionality and a touch of femininity added by the cinched waist of the coat. All of this comes together to create an easy, convenient look that she can brave the elements in while still being confident with her style. She is now ready to make the trip across campus to the dining hall, take a relaxing winter walk or venture to the mall for those post-holiday sales. The weather may be drab, but she looks totally fab!

One Simple Change: Although I love all black and white, this outfit could definitely benefit from a pop of color especially because the winter landscape can be so blah. Add in a vibrant scarf, hat or gloves to give that extra kick.
