WHAT TO WEAR: Shopping

Although one would think that the majority of tourists visiting NYC would want to shop in the Big Apple itself, it’s actually the Woodbury Commons Outlet Center in upstate New York to which shoppers from abroad flock with suitcases in tow. I myself was here with family visiting from Colombia, assisting them with their last minute gift list. It was here that I found this week’s Fashionista from Salamanca, Spain!

If you’ve ever spent a day at an outlet mall, you can sympathize when I say that a trip to an outlet mall is not at all like an indoor mall! Firstly, they’re outdoors, which means that you must dress in many layers for this time of year. Our Fashionista has done that well, with thick leggings, a sweatshirt and fur-lined parka. A feature of her jacket that I absolutely adore (besides appearing to be extra warm on the interior) is its almost leather-like appearance, a refreshing break from the typical olive greens, blacks and navies. If you’re in the hunt for a warm parka this season, mix it up with a less commonplace print or color. For an easy transition piece for the early spring, this pastel pink parka from J.Crew looks as warm as it is on-trend! For those who prefer a darker color palette, this tartan-patched parka or this plum-hued one from Jack Willis are excellent choices. Jack Willis also offers the same coat in a gorgeous teal and forest green, so essentially the options for a non-traditional parka are numerous!

Buses that transport tourists from Manhattan to the outlet arrive at around 10 a.m., and typically don’t leave until about 6 p.m. that evening. That is why wearing comfortable footwear is an absolute must. In recent months I’ve been spotting more and more Fashionistas wearing hiking sneakers as casual wear, and I couldn’t be more stoked! Hopefully more Fashionistas will invest in a pair, and utilize them on actual hikes once the weather allows. The recent style revolution of activewear enables any Fashionista to find their own adventure, while looking fabulous doing so. Merrell is one of the most known brands for hiking shoes, and their Blaze Aero Sport and All Out Blaze models are on the top of my wish list.

A hands-free, no-fuss bag, a fanny pack is perfect for easy access to your essentials. This fanny pack from The North Face comes in a beautiful deep red and is guaranteed to complement many outfits. For multiple piercings, simpler earrings can prove to be more attention-grabbing than larger baubles. This Fashionista does just that, opting for three small hoops.

Perfectly outfitted for a shopping day, this Fashionista was equal parts comfortable and as warm as she was fashion-forward.

One Simple Change: A warmer option for bottoms would be to wear pants. These espresso colored cargo skinnies are functional and a great choice for this ensemble.
