WHAT TO WEAR: Parent's Weekend

Parent’s weekend is the time in the semester when, whether you like it or not, mom and dad come to visit your school. This means, for most, that your campus and dorm/apartment are tidied up to their absolute best so your family (and the hundreds of prospective students who also attend) aren’t exposed to the grungy, stressed-out college kids who are usually slopping around campus. It is the weekend when we all put on our Blair Waldorf best and act like everything is just fine. However, when it comes to dressing for the parents, it is best to keep it conservative and ask ourselves, “What would Blair Waldorf do?”

This past weekend, this Fashionista’s outfit embodied one of our favorite leading ladies from Gossip Girl. Her cream cotton sweater is pristine and draws the eye to her forest green and black checkered skirt. The length of her skirt is the right length to be appropriate, but still keep the outfit looking youthful. Her black tights and boots combo are perfect for staying warm as well as practical for ushering parents all across Texas A&M’s large campus.

She kept her jewelry simple, yet lovely with their delicate gold and pearl details. This allowed the main pop of color for the ensemble to come from her maroon peacoat and bag. As an Aggie, maroon is the main color of our wardrobe and what better occasion than parent’s weekend to show school spirit? Also, as a close cousin to Pantone’s Color of the Year, marsala, it is a hot color to add to any fashionable outfit. Her outfit is the perfect balance of conservative and trendy.

One Simple Change: Are you able to get away from the family later in the evening to meet up with friends? Take this outfit from day to night without planning a whole new look by switching the boots for a cute pair of wedges or pumps.
