WHAT TO WEAR: Laura Ingalls Wild-er

It’s part what her mom has tried to condition her to wear—anything minimalist, black, and French—but that’s almost been a failed experiment. She loves her T-shirts with holes, says this Fashionista when asked, in a couple of words, to describe her personal style. It makes her day better to have one weird item on, which for this look is the neck accessory, she adds. After talking for a while, she reveals that the red “scarf” is actually a ribbon left over from a Christmas present she received from her girlfriend last year. She said she uses the ribbon more than the gift inside—a small electronic race car.

As you may have guessed, this Fashionista picked up both the black motorcycle jacket and Little House on the Prairie-esque dress from small thrift stores in Los Angeles. So, while you may not be able to purchase these items for yourself, you can surely emulate the outfit by juxtaposing lace with studded leather and heavy black boots with dainty red ribbons and silver jewelry. She said she collected all of these cool pieces and finally has an outfit she would’ve dreamed of wearing when she was younger, and I have to agree: my elementary school, Laura Ingalls Wilder-loving self also dreamed of dresses trimmed with white lace and aprons adorned with big bows. The red neck detail adds a pop of color to the black and white color-blocked outfit and mimics the cute waist ribbon. Even though this Fashionista doesn’t feel as if she’s honored her mother’s advice to dress “French and in black,” the simple boot and classic motor jacket seem to fit the bill.
