WHAT TO WEAR: Internship

Summer internships are, as you know, invaluable for giving college students real life work experience. They can be a bit of a bummer if you have to work holidays, though, especially if you’re working the Fourth of July. It surely is a fine welcoming to the real world! If you’re stuck working holidays and weekends, why not channel some of that wishing-you-were-somewhere-else into your outfit rather than have it affect your productivity?

This Fashionista’s look is perfect for the days leading up to the Fourth of July or the holiday itself, if you’re unlucky enough to be working that day. Her white sleeveless button-up blouse and striped pleated skirt are just the right mix of professional and fun. The classic color palette—red, white and blue—give the outfit a distinctly patriotic feel, and the structure of the pieces prevent compromising the professionalism of the outfit. Pairing a more formal piece like her simple leather watch with wrap sandals further balances the look. Choosing sandals prevents the look from becoming too preppy while adding a touch of summer fun to her outfit.

One Simple Change: Experiment with this Fashionista’s color palette. You could easily switch her white button-up blouse for a navy one and pair it with this white and red striped Dolce&Gabbana skirt to create the same sort of festive look at your internship. Then later in the day, after you’re through at your internship, you could swap out the button-up for this denim crop top from ASOS. Take off the watch and congratulations! You’ve dressed down perfectly enough to easily be best dressed at a Fourth of July celebration.
