WHAT TO WEAR: Internship

A lot of jobs require business casual attire, and they start buckling in on this rule during the summer. I know some of you are lucky enough to wear shorts and tank tops to work or to your internship, but for the most part, we have to cover up. So the question is—how do we bring summer into the workplace? The answer is with bold colors and patterns. Here’s the equation: solid colors paired with a geometric pattern makes for the perfect summer work outfit. Keep in mind that it’s always good to have one color that pulls everything together. All that being said, don’t be afraid to break the equation and go for a bold, bright pattern with a bright neon color. Just remember that everything is great with a little balance.

This Fashionista is the perfect example to the equation. The bright pink blazer is an amazing color for summer, and she paired it with geometric pattern joggers. Let’s break this down to really show why this outfit works. The bright pink draws attention and isn’t too out of place with the setting. The joggers are not too tight but are still sophisticated and help tone down the color in the blazer. The pants help give the look a more laid back feel rather than looking at it from a business perspective. My favorite thing about this whole look is the white tuxedo shirt that pulls everything together. The white creates the balance that this look needs. It pulls the white from the joggers, adding that extra pop in the blazer. I can not express enough how important it is to have harmony in your outfit. Even with the crazy colors and patterns, the harmony creates the look.

One Simple Change: Going out straight after work? Wear the blazer over your shoulders, and switch out the white blouse with a white crop top. Changing the blouse eliminates the workplace look and the crop top adds sass the outfit needs for the night.
