WHAT TO WEAR: Greek Life

August 18th, 2016 at 2:00am

It’s almost time to head back to school and I could not be more thrilled! I’m mostly excited to return to Kent because we are rapidly approaching sorority formal recruitment. The choice that I made to be a part of Greek life was one of the greatest decisions I’ve ever made. I went through recruitment around this time last year and it was such an incredible experience. Fashion plays such an important role in this process because it helps potential new members express themselves. At Kent State, we have three rounds which include philanthropy, house tours and preference day. The key to every round is to sincerely be yourself and dress to show off your personality so that you find your perfect fit.

Preference round is the last day of the week where potential new members learn about a sorority’s traditions and values. It was personally my favorite part of the week because this is when I knew Alpha Xi Delta was my home. While philanthropy round and house tours are filled with loud singing and overwhelming excitement, this round is a lot more serious, so it calls for a more polished outfit. This Fashionista’s look is a perfect example of what to wear on preference day. Her floral dress is bright and full of color just like her lively personality. The hemline is not too revealing and the sweetheart neckline is conservative yet still flirty. Her cross-body bag is an essential piece to her outfit for two reasons. The embossed leather adds a decorative texture to the look, and she can keep everything she needs to get her through the day right at her side. She balances out the bold print of the dress with simple accessories. A girl can never go wrong with sparkling stud earrings and a classic pair of nude heels.

One Simple Change: This preference round look is ideal for schools that have recruitment earlier in the semester when the summer heat is still alive and well. If your school does formal recruitment later in the fall, try a cocktail dress that is more appropriate for the season with long sleeves and rich colors.
