WHAT TO WEAR: Formal

State College is known for its flip-flopping weather (read: not flip-flop weather!) The beginning of the week will be beautifully sunny and warm and come Friday, a snow flurry will happen on your way to class. This Fashionista was on her way to her service club’s formal and was caught in an unexpected blizzard.

The first thing to catch my eye was the brilliant cobalt blue color of her dress. As someone who counts Morticia Addams and Cally-Jo as style icons, I was surprised how much I loved the color. Keeping the rest of her look relatively understated with nude pumps and simple accessories (in addition to her adorable music note tattoo), she looked perfectly appropriate for a springtime formal.

For a springtime look (even during a freak snowstorm), a bright color is the way to go when making an impact. Similar to a swiping on a bold lipstick, a daringly colorful dress requires no extra bling (a blessing to minimalistic girls like myself) and relatively simple makeup. A deep-blue color looks incredible on anyone, especially on a fit-and-flare dress. (Bonus: this one has secret shorts attached!). For a sexier twist, a flaming red would look amazing with a matching red lip. Or emulate the new spring season with a dazzling emerald hue, complete with a strappy back.

A pair of nude pumps were perfect for the weather, but strappy nude sandals would be perfect for warmer climates. For such a bold dress, simple jewelry is all that’s necessary. A minimalistic charm necklace or choker adds the perfect amount of shine. A set of dainty bracelets complete the look.

One Simple Change: For an edgier (and warmer) twist that’s suitable for going out for a girl’s night after, slip on some sheer black tights and a pair of black booties. A dark leather jacket counteracts the bright blue color and casual flow of the dress.
