WHAT TO WEAR: Cold Weather

Although the winter weather only lasts for about two months in the Arlington area, this season feels like an eternity! With the temperatures so chilly and the prospect of snow falling from the sky at any time, as it did on this day, we often find ourselves in a rut when it comes to fashion. However, just because the weather outside is so frightful, doesn’t mean that your style can’t be delightful! One of the best ways to jazz up any outfit during the winter is through a statement coat.

When I noticed this Fashionista braving the cold and freshly fallen snow, I immediately was drawn to her black and white patterned, bouclé statement coat. I love how the edition of one article of clothing such as a coat can alter the aura of an entire ensemble. The leather detailing added a little bit more interest to the already bold coat. The mid-thigh length also kept the look fun and flirty, while still keeping this Fashionista warm.

She chose to wear a simple, black circle scarf to stay extra warm and to not take away from the coat. The thick, black tights worn underneath were another good choice because they too allowed the coat to be the standout. Finishing off with a flat, black bootie, this added a little feminine detail with the bow/twist on the side.

One Simple Change: The snow finally stopped and the chances of slipping and breaking your neck aren’t as high? Awesome! To dress up this coat and give the outfit a little unexpected burst of color, zip up a pair of burgundy booties with little chunky heel. This will up the wow factor of your ensemble but will still give the coat the attention it deserves.
