WHAT TO WEAR: Class

Summer classes have begun! With these warmer temperatures, it is usually a lot easier for students to show their more stylish side. There are, however, still a couple downsides to this season’s weather at Penn State. The heat is extremely humid, it often rains at random intervals and the night can end up a bit more chilly than you’d hoped for. Add the scattered weather to a student’s daily campus routine and you get some interesting outfits.

What first caught my eye about this Fashionista were her sneakers. She had on black Michael Kors Allie nylon and leather sneakers. The rest of her outfit followed with the classic black, white and grey. She wore a Coco & Jameson graphic crop tank and a black leather-look mock-croc mini skirt. She then completed her outfit with black cat-eye sunglasses (this season’s newest indulgence) lined in gold, rhinestone stud earrings and a hot pink polka-dotted key fob.

What I love about her look is that it was very upscale, but in the most subtle ways. She put together expensive, brand-name items and made them casual. The whole outfit was clean and not at all in-your-face with logos. It was also comfortable enough to get her through a day of classes, but still fashion-forward.

I’ve noticed that minimalism has been a very big trend lately. You saw it with the rise of items like joggers and jumpsuits this past year. You see it with Kanye West x adidas Originals ready-to-wear fashion line for this upcoming fall. Fashionistas/os are focusing more and more on subtle details. I personally like the idea of investing in better quality items that are basic enough to mix-and-match with various pieces in your wardrobe, all the while carrying its own little zest in minor details such as the type of fabric, the stitch, the fit, the cut, etc.

One Simple Change: Planning a night out in the town after class? Just swap the sneakers for black ankle boots and add a black lightweight cardigan and you’re good to go!
