We have officially made it to the new year! And with that brings the start of a fresh semester. Beginning a new semester is always a comforting feeling because it allows you a clean slate to embark on new opportunities. Coming back to school after the long holiday period leaves me feeling refreshed and ready to conquer the semester. Starting off organized comes naturally, but maintaining that mind-set throughout the semester is the key to having a successful one.

While the motivation to look nice for class lacks most days—looking good is feeling good. Even on the busiest days, putting together a stylish outfit can make your day feel less stressful. In the look above, my fellow Fashionista is wearing an oversized T-shirt paired with DIY black ripped jeans. She adds customized floral Nike sneakers and a subtle statement necklace to complete this functional, everyday look. I’m a huge fan of this look because of how versatile and easy it is to throw on.

Some easy tips to style an oversized T-shirt for everyday wear: (1) Converse and boyfriend jeans are always an easy combo to combine together with an oversized T-shirt. (2) Layering it with a leather/utilitarian jacket gives an cool off-duty vibe. (3) Throwing a cardigan or flannel around the waist or over the shoulders works for a more casual layering look and adds warmth for the colder seasons. (4) Leggings and a ball cap with sneakers of your choice makes being constantly on the go comfortable and chic. (5) There’s an endless amount of ways you can style any basic piece, especially an oversized T-shirt. (6) I always gravitate towards basic plain pieces because mixing and matching is my favorite thing to do with essential pieces.

One Simple Change: After a full day of classes you can turn this functional look into a night out by simply just swapping the shoes! Throw on a pair of booties, strappy flats or heels, and you’re ready for a night on the town with your girls.
