WHAT TO WEAR: Chic in the City

After the holiday season has passed, the chilly months of January and February can become quite dreary. The sparkle and celebration of December comes to an end, and most of us return to our daily routines. This seemingly endless winter calls for a change in pace. In my experience, a day trip to an urban location and some good retail therapy almost always ignites style inspiration and cures the winter blues.

For those Fashionistas living in the frozen tundra, putting together an outfit that provides both style and warmth can be a constant challenge. Although sporting a heavy parka is essential on days that the temperature drops below freezing, on milder occasions, a chic wool coat, and strategic layering can do the trick. This Fashionista keeps warm for her day in the city by layering a cozy knit sweater over chambray button-down and topping it off with an embellished wool peacoat and a charming plaid scarf. To keep things simple on the bottom, she wears a pair of sleek black denim and suede cut out booties. The cut out detail and slightly pointed shape of these boots make them stylish yet totally practical for walking around all day and exploring downtown. To finish the look, she carries a striking baby blue statement purse large enough to hold all of the essentials and accessories with a dainty rose gold watch and pearl earrings. While staple pieces like a classic wool coat, black denim, and angular booties are essential to any wardrobe, the accessories truly elevate this outfit and give the polished and preppy look a modern upgrade.

As the winter drags on and you find yourself in a slump, take the time to treat yourself to a day out on the town. The city skyline and dancing lights are sure to refresh and inspire. After all, what Fashionista doesn’t love a good excuse to dress up?
