STYLE GURU STYLE: Working Hard or Hardly Working

This year we are going back to basics for sleek casual work attire. Zara, H&M, UNIQLO and many more brands have fashionable ready-to-wear basics for every season! Celebrities such as Demi Lovato and my fashion icon, Lorde, are all wearing black on black ensembles with straight leg pants, heeled booties and statement jewelry. Channeling the same trends found on the runway, the dark colors slim and give off an edgy vibe that leaves you looking effortlessly cool. Taking a look at Alexander McQueen’s 2016 resort collection, I was inspired to dress in a head to toe neutral look. His mostly gray and black business casual ensembles made me want to rock my own casual version. I loved the crop tops and the aesthetic was totally on point.

So I started off with the neutrals. We all know that black matches everything, but it can be your best look, head to toe, if done right. You can wear it to class, to work or just to hang out with friends; all in all you can’t go wrong with going back to black. Adding pops of color through jewelry, bags or a sweater adds enough without overdoing it. While you can still dance with color in the details, creating a dark silhouette is key for this throwback look. That’s right, black is the new black.

This laid-back look is complete with an H&M crop top and black leggings. I paired these simple black statement pieces with an oversized H&M sweater to keep it form being too dark. I am also wearing UNIF boots, my favorite shoes in my collection.

To finish off this look, I have chosen a vintage blue statement necklace. The best way to glam up such a low maintenance look is to add something bright and unique. The best part about going back to black is that dark colors mixed with colorful accents put together create a chic look that is both affordable and fashionable.

Although I chose to make this look more along the lines of business-casual, throwing on some flat black boots and throwing your hair up in a bun would achieve a similar, more casual feel. For me, this revival of a relaxed basic is uber exciting for the coming months when most of us are working summer jobs or relaxing on vacation, so embrace your own basic style for an easy, comfortable and, most importantly, stylish look this month. With a look this fashionable you’ll have people wondering if you’re working hard or hardly working!
