STYLE GURU STYLE: White Shirt Redux

Ah, the classic white oxford shirt. A timeless classic piece, which has been totally reconstructed this past fashion season. What do I mean by that? Designers from Vera Wang to 3.1 Phillip Lim, have put their own twist on the white oxford. Oversized, sheer, short and long sleeve, the white oxford has taken on a new shape and style. Now, I am one who doesn’t like to take the so called “traditional route” in wearing basics, so this runway trend made me run home and grab my Bugle Boy!

Yes, my oversized white button down is by the popular 1980s jean company, Bugle Boy (may you rest in peace). I swiped this little number from the back of my mom’s closet and it is perhaps one of my favorite pieces I own. It is a comfy and classic piece that can go with anything and be worn different ways. I was inspired by various designers to take on the white shirt redux, one being Vera Wang. Her spring 2016 ready-to-wear collection features various styles of the classic white shirt. Her collection featured mostly black and white pieces, which are very classic and clean-cut.

I decided to take my own approach to this runway trend in how I styled the button-down. I took my mom’s old oversized shirt and paired it with a large statement necklace that I scored from a Dillard’s Black Friday sale a few years ago. Side note: no blood was shed in the purchase of this necklace. I threw on my favorite pair of boyfriend jeans that I found at the consignment store, Plato’s Closet. I completed the look with my rockin’ favorite pair of black booties, which I wear way to much to admit. I decided to go with a more oversized look, which has also been popular on the runways the past few seasons.

Get My Look: 1. Oversized button-down. 2. Statement necklace. 3. Boyfriend jeans. 4. Black Booties.
