STYLE GURU STYLE: White Out for Winter

We tend to think that, coming into the winter, everything gets darker. Our nail polishes switch from those bright corals and blues to black and navy, our nude wedges are put away for a pair of black booties and our cutest sundresses take a dark twist as black tights become a staple.

In the winter, it can definitely be hard to know what the right color palette is, which is why the very neutral black and navy blue tend to be our go-to when mixing and matching. We always forget about a key neutral for the colder weather—winter white.

Winter white has been shown in spring ready-to-wear collections for the past few years, taking a modern twist on a wardrobe focused on warmth. Winter white often has a bit of a cream tone to it, making it a very warm neutral to look at and wear. Both Akris in their spring 2015 ready-to-wear collection and Banana Republic in their spring 2014 ready-to-wear collection showed off this groundbreaking color, layering it on itself with blazers, skirts, dresses and more.

I chose to pair my winter white sweater with a classic pair of jeans. Although I love the all-white look, it can be hard to pull off when you are also managing classes, homework and lunch dates.

My sweater has a slightly 3D element to it, giving my outfit some detail. The beanie and socks make great additions to the look because they are perfect cold weather accessories that bring the neutral color from head to toe.

To complement the warm tones in my winter white pieces, I added some gold accent jewelry. My long necklace and knotted studs are simple, leaving the statement to the color palette of my outfit.

Don’t be afraid to try a different spectrum this winter! Winter white is just what you need to rock the perfect neutral outfit and look cozy while doing it.

Get My Look: 1. A cozy, white sweater. 2. A white beanie. 3. Gold accent jewelry.
