STYLE GURU STYLE: To The Max

Even in the summer, I tend to wear mostly black. This sleek black maxi dress is as stylish as it is comfortable. Side slits and a caged back are unique details that liven up a basic cotton maxi.

I was inspired by the side-slit dresses and skirts in the Givenchy resort 2016 collection. A slit up-to-there is a bit more unexpected than a mini skirt, but just as alluring. Maxi dresses and skirts are becoming a staple of my summer wardrobe because they’re flowy and easy to throw on when it gets hot and sticky out.

A great maxi dress, especially in black, can be dressed up from day to night with a simple change of shoes. I was able to wear this dress to the office because I work in a creative environment, but it probably wouldn’t be appropriate in more conservative work environments.

I paired this maxi dress with a pair of strappy wedges. I like these shoes because they add a little height but are still comfortable—a far cry from my sky-high platform sandals. Maxi dresses can be a little too long if you’re on the petite side, so a bit of a heel may be necessary. No one wants to trip over their dress!

For accessories, I kept it simple. I’m wearing a stacked bracelet for a little pop of color. The cool blue tone and delicate charms are beachy and summery. For nighttime, you could add a leather jacket or jean jacket for an extra layer of warmth.

Get My Look: 1. A side-slit maxi dress. 2.  A low wedge. 3. Stacked bracelets.
