Recently off the runway, the Theory resort 2017 collection grabbed my attention. This collection made sure to bring texture and unique colors together, for example, there is a burgundy suede suit, and a baby blue sweater styled with dark orange pants. Also, there are a lot of layered minimalistic pieces and who said minimalistic is not effective? The layering minimalistic approach brings out Theory’s style: mysterious, classy, laid-back and elegant.
Theory’s look is a maxi black textured skirt with an open back black top with white sneakers. I translated this runway look into my own style by first choosing a dress instead of a skirt, layering an open back white top over that and putting on some white sneakers as well. I thought of a dress instead of a skirt because first, I own more dresses and second, I wanted to keep my back covered but still have that mysterious open back top approach. I chose to stick with white sneakers because that’s what adds onto the minimalistic layering and therefore brings a laid-back and cool vibe. If you were to try this look and did not want to add on the white sneakers, black loafers will still do the trick by sticking to the laid-back and chic vibe.
“Color is a big message for the label’s Pre-Spring offering, texture is key too. For example, a handful of different interpretations of tweed, including a nice pair of relaxed rainbow-flecked trousers worn with a ribbed knit.” said Lisa Kulson on her new collection.
