STYLE GURU STYLE: The Parisian ‘70s

The Saint Laurent fall 2015 menswear show nailed it in terms of achieving the Parisian cool factor. While other collections are dabbling with the idea of a loose-fit trouser, the Saint Laurent show decided to stick to skinnies. In fact, it took the classic skinny pant to the next level: super tight and in slick, patent fabrics.

Incorporating the quintessential striped boat-neck tops as well as printed bomber jackets, the collection was a nod to what the hip youth of Paris might have worn at the turn of the ‘80s into the ‘90s. I decided to take inspiration from the use of hats and animal patterns to create a look more akin to ‘70s glamour.

Turtleneck tops have become a staple for me this season, so I wore one to serve as a solid foundation for my luxe look. Like the models sent down the runway for Saint Laurent, I sported a pair of black skinny pants. I based the rest of my look on two ensembles from the show, one of which featured a leopard print sweater and the other which incorporated a zebra print plush coat.

Since the basis of my outfit was made up of dark neutrals, I topped it off with a statement faux fur coat in leopard. Although the runway show made use of berets for headwear, I went for a floppy orange number as an homage to the ‘70s. To finish off the look and make it truly mine, I added my favorite pair of golden earrings from India.
Remember that fashion is merely a source of customizable ideas, so do not be afraid to take some risks as well. Look to various types of shows for inspiration, whether they be menswear or couture. Always experiment a little outside the comfort zone to give personal style some room for evolution.

Get My Look: 1. An animal print faux fur coat. 2. A floppy hat. 3. Some embellished hoop earrings.
