STYLE GURU STYLE: The Overalls Are Back!

Yohji Yamaoto’s fall 2016 ready-to-wear collection might have just been my favorite from this year’s fashion shows. Less is more, and this year, Yohji Yamaoto opted for just that. He went for a more colorless and genderless approach, but was still able to keep the style going. For those who witnessed his look on the runway it left the question, “Was his approach more masculine or feminine?”

Sticking to Yohji Yamaoto’s simple, straight edge style I decided to bring back a style that was as simple as can be, overalls. Remember when we were young and our parents dressed us in denim overalls and paired them with tennis shoes? Who knew that they would be such a hit a few years later; Well, here they are. But this time around instead of the stiff denim overalls, I took some of Yamaoto’s tips and went for some simple black overalls.

This outfit is perfect for anyone who wanted to be comfortable and not too hot while still looking stylish. My camel colored turtleneck was perfect as an undershirt if the day decided to get a little breezy.  The contrast between the camel turtleneck and the black overalls bring the eyes to the outfit. Without loosing the overall idea of colorless theme Yohji Yamaoto had in mind. When it came to my footwear, I went for the classic black and white adidas Superstars. You can never go wrong with these shoes; they’re definitely the footwear to invest in and have in your closet.

I was lucky enough to be wearing this outfit on one of the few warm days this winter, so I didn’t really need to be wearing a heavy coat as much. But if for some reason the weather wasn’t as generous to you as it was to me, stick to neutral colors and go for an earth colored midi coat. This coat adds enough to the outfit to keep it stylish but doesn’t take anything away from the outfit if you decide not to wear it. What I love about this coat is that it isn’t really tied down to just one gender and could go either way.

I chose to do two french braids in my hair to stick with the child theme. Because the outfit consisted of only neutral colors, that’s exactly what I stuck with for my makeup. This outfit perfect for going on a walk or even just going to class and it doesn’t take too much effort to achieve.
