STYLE GURU STYLE: The New Neutral

I have always been a lover of all things neutral. I often lean toward black for my clothing, even when I have tried my hardest not to. So, I have recently worked more neutrals into my wardrobe to mix up my color palette while always keeping my love for black in check.

For my outfit, I was inspired by the Balmain fall 2016 Ready-To-Wear Collection. The use of pastels has been a huge trend on the runways this year and Balmain proved that they know how to work a trend in their own way. The use of structured pieces, like corsets, with soft details such as suede and feathers creates a look for the modern, edgy woman. This Balmain show inspires my style in the way that the collection presents these colors to be the new version of a neutral. Step aside black and white, we got some new neutrals in town.

I have always loved the classic Parisian look of a black pair of skinny jeans and a great white T-shirt, but I am all about taking new trends and turning classic looks more modern. One of the main reasons this combination has been named timeless is the effortlessness of two classic neutrals. To achieve a trendier version of this look, you can switch out your plain white T-shirt for a different neutral color such as gray, nude or blush. Next, pair your T-shirt with a different bottom like a skirt or a pair of overalls to look unique and chic.

For my look, I took the Balmain Inspiration of new neutrals and opted for a pale gray vintage band T-shirt and a high-waisted leather skirt to give it some edge. I also love the way the collection hits on hard and soft by combining corsets with suede, so I decided to add my thigh high suede boots to my outfit to achieve that same element with a mix of suede and leather. To finish up my look, I threw on my two favorite necklaces at the moment, my black velvet choker and my gold bar necklace. Master this look with hard and soft pieces and a mix of your best neutrals, but never forget to add your own little twist.
