STYLE GURU STYLE: The Mini The Merrier

The ’60s are having a major moment in many resort 2016 collections and I am thrilled! This means flares, fringe, fifty shades of burnt orange and my favorite: minis. Necklines and waistlines are higher, which means that hemlines have followed suit. The Clover Canyon resort 2016 collection plays with many of these elements with its clear ’60s-mod influence.

The collection is a series of crop tops, flare pants, platform sandals and those faithful mini skirts and mini shift dresses. There’s also plenty of mustard, orange and forest green in the pallet. What makes the collection fresh for right now, however, is its playfulness. There are shift dresses with psychedelic floral prints, but those textiles are also covered in translucent sequins. Pieces fitting the typical ’60s shapes come in more modern colors, like bright coral and turquoise. Each outfit is completed with shoes that feature killer height and color that makes a huge impact. Perhaps my favorite aspect of the collection is the way it so freely mixes and matches different patterns and colors. The nostalgia of the era is shown as fun and spirited.

To try to translate this playful ’60s vibe into my own everyday wardrobe, I decided to center my outfit on this mini shift dress that I picked up at my local thrift shop. I love the boldness and youthfulness of a mini. It’s a simple structure, but it still packs a powerful punch. I tried to play with pattern and color in my look by adding a floral print purse and bright, turquoise oxfords. I thought it would be fun to add a bit of color in my simple jewelry, as well. My goal was to pay homage to a trend of the past while having fun and making it my own. I encourage everyone to take notes from Clover Canyon and the movements of the ’60s by being free, fun and fierce this season.

Get My Look: 1. A mini shift dress. 2. A floral purse. 3. Some bright oxfords.
