STYLE GURU STYLE: The Comeback Kid(s)

I’m back and bringing the styles of the 1970s with me. The ‘70s were a time bell-bottom jeans, flowery prints, and lots of free-spirited girls creating their own style. These trends seemed to fade as the popularity of chokers and plaid mini skirts came about in the ‘90s; however, the ‘70s are back and better than ever.

I found inspiration for this look in Alexander McQueen’s pre-fall 2016 show. This collection is packed with vintage inspired pieces combined with the classic vintage style consisting of flared pants, neutral colors, and groovy prints. The designer made this collection with you “girly girls” in mind. It is made up of pieces that are more girly combined with looser “boyfriend” fitting items. The collection focuses on the layering of clothing and accessories; perfect for a girl who wants to make a statement.

This collection inspired me to create a more subtle version of the styles in the runway show and it allowed me to put my own spin on the look. I am always buying pieces that are more neutral tones and simple patterns in order for me to able to wear the pieces as a part of many different looks . Luckily, this collection is the same and focuses on neutrals, olive greens, and dusty reds, inspired by the vintage  colors of the ’60s and ’70s.  I was inspired by the bold patterns in McQueen’s styles and chose to pair a large statement necklace with a body chain to give my outfit more excitement. The body chain brings an even more sensual look to the outfit. The shades are another very important part of the look. My sunglasses add that extra vintage touch that will add a retro spin to any outfit! I also took from the more vintage pieces of the look and figured what could be more vintage than an ‘80s-inspired bodysuit combined with a pair of dark wash flared jeans. Lastly, I decided to not style my hair in any way to give a more carefree look that the collection embodies.
