STYLE GURU STYLE: The Cold Shoulder

July 15th, 2016 at 2:00am

This spring, a multitude of fashion trends from the ‘90s took runways everywhere by storm; the Paul & Joe spring 2016 ready-to-wear collection was no exception. The collection’s physical embodiment of ‘90s street style, from vintage T-shirts to minimalist pantsuits, effectively brings the decade back to life.

The inspiration for this look was centered around my favorite trend from this decade, which also happens to be featured in one of my favorite looks from this collection—the off-the-shoulder trend. Bare shoulders have never been so in! These off-the-shoulder tops allow some skin to show in a less than traditional sense; collar bones and shoulders playing peek-a-boo with the neckline creates a flirty vibe without being uncomfortably revealing.

Simultaneously pulling from the pastel-based color scheme of the Paul & Joe collection, I decided to pair a blue and white asymmetrically striped off-the-shoulder top with a pair of classic white jeans for a timeless look. To polish off the outfit, I accessorized with a simple layered necklace, a tan pair of booties and my favorite Halston purse in the perfect blush shade.

Arguably, what makes this trend the best thing since sliced bread is its versatility. From cozy sweaters to flowy sundresses, the off-the-shoulder style is everywhere, making it even easier to sport for any occasion in any season. Figure out which specific style works best with your body type and you might just find yourself with a new go-to staple piece hanging in your closet.

Get My Look: 1. Off-the-shoulder top. 2. White jeans. 3. Chunky peep-toe booties. 4. Layered choker necklace. 5. Pastel cross-body purse.
