STYLE GURU STYLE: That '70s Touch

Who has been more ecstatic than ever recently? Do you have Fashion Week(s) on your mind? If you answered yes to both, then you and I are definitely on the same boat! Regardless of the pearly white snowfall gracing students in the bitterest of winter once again in Wisconsin, this time of year could not be more joyful with an abundance of fashion shows happening.

Throughout New York Fashion week, I found myself intrigued by a couple of trends: 1. ’70s-inspired and 2. feminine meets masculine. I noticed ’70s touches throughout a few shows, but more specifically speaking I was head over heels with the Trussardi fall 2015 ready-to-wear show. It was most captivating to me, as I cannot get enough of feminine meets masculine wear. Not to mention, the attire in this show was simplistic and could easily be replicated by anyone for a charming, sultry look. Trussardi’s line in New York Fashion Week can be summed up as a “neo-minimal” feminine meets masculine, leather and suede, business efficient type of look. The designer’s color palette was dark and earthy with outfits mainly weighted by black, forest green, gray and taupe. Note: this designer is not the only one that had this type of color palette either; a lot of designers had earthier and mauve color tones in their 2015 ready-to-wear collections.

So today, I went for it with a soft ’70s weekend-inspired look with an added touch of Trussardi (one of my now favorite designers!). To begin my ’70s touch, I opted for chandelier earrings with golden feathers and a lightly ruffled floral button-up. Channeling Trusardi’s collection, I opted for these small chunky heeled, black, pointy toe booties. To bring it all together, I chose to wear these ripped and cuffed light wash denim jeans. I chose to wear ripped denim because it’s a rising trend right now and denim is a staple—I thought it would beautifully bring together the other two trends in a relevant way. So there you have it, a soft ’70s touch to a feminine meets masculine weekend look. What do you think?
