STYLE GURU STYLE: Summer Simplicity

Chills ran down my spine as I flipped through the looks from Alexander Wang’s resort 2016 collection. When hearing the word “resort,” my mind tends to automatically go towards vibrant colors and floral/Aztec type designs. Therefore, Wang’s collection was a breath of fresh air, utilizing a mainly black and white color palette with leather and cotton materials.

I’m always intrigued by Wang’s use of simplicty and ability to convince the industry that you can sport a white T-shirt and leggings and call it fashion. This collection featured 23 different looks ranging from simple slip dresses to leather crop top and pant sets.

However, the outfit that inspired me the most was look 19, featuring a white shin length pleated shirt dress, black leather platforms and a leather bucket style bag. I took this look and decided to make it a little more wearable for myself on my campus this summer. Even though I adore the dress on the model, I decided a cotton white T-shirt dress that I purchased from H&M this spring was a more realistic option for daily wear. When it came to the accesories I stayed as true to the original look as I could, throwing on my favorite black platform sandals. As for the bag, I went with a simple black leather tote that fits my school books and laptop perfectly! The original look did not include many accessories but I decided to add a simple chunky silver chain and, of course, a pair of aviator sunnies!

Get My Look: 1. Simple T-shirt dress. 2. Platform sandals. 3. Leather black bag.
