I don’t know what it is about the latest fashion trends but what I do seem to know is that I’ve been kind of obsessed with every single one of them. Lately, fashion has evolved into something that upholds a balance between minimalism and a more boho vibe and this, to me, is as refreshing as it is fun and elegant in its very own way. Now if you know me and my personal style, it shouldn’t be hard to figure out which one of the trends is my absolute favorite. Yup, you got it right—culottes.
Frankly speaking, I’m a skinny jeans kind of girl but there’s something about culottes that makes me never want to take them off. Culottes are everywhere: on every fashion blog, in all the stores, in the pages of every single fashion magazine and on the streets. I’m pretty sure it’s safe to say that they’re completely taking over the world of fashion. Take it back a few months to all the fashion weeks that took place and you’ll be able to see that culottes have actually been in style for quite a while. Thankfully, with the passage of time, the trend has been getting more and more prominent and I don’t really think it’s going to go away any time soon (yay to that).
One of my favorite collections that really emphasized culottes was the DKNY fall 2015 ready-to-wear. The different colors of the culottes, the way they were styled and their fun and extremely chic tailoring really made the collection stand out to me and definitely increased my affinity for these pants a little more. I mean the pieces were designed by Donna Karan so to be honest, how could they not?
For this look, I wore my favorite pair of black culottes and a simple black strapless tube top to keep the outfit a bit minimalistic and casual. Of course I had to go with my black embellished sandals that I love, love, love and as for my accessories, I kept things simple by only adding a silver bracelet with a floral design that matches the jewels on the sandals, a silver ring and my favorite small black leather cross-body Prada bag.
For me, culottes are an essential piece in every closet, as they are tremendously versatile and chic. They can be dressed both up and down and their sense of effortless elegance is what makes them so special and trendy. Trust me, if you don’t already own a pair, you need one. Go get it. No, seriously. Go.
