STYLE GURU STYLE: Smells Like Free Spirit

In my opinion, experimenting with different trends has always been the most fun part about fashion. I love taking staple pieces from my closet, like a wool coat and mixing it with something unexpected to add a different flavor to my look. It’s okay to rebel a little from the classic trends of fashion.

Nanette Lepore’s fall 2015 ready-to-wear collection combined structured military designs and bohemian vibes. Capturing a posh society with a twinge of rebellion, Lepore’s military capes and coats mix beautifully with her brocade dresses and printed jumpsuits. The collection ties into her overall contemporary ambiance but with a flare from the stylish ‘60s free spirits.

For my outfit today, I took ideas from Nanette Lepore’s collection and dawned a wool coat that resembled her military-inspired designs. The large zippers and buttons fit the military vibe perfectly. My peacoat from Laundry feels professional, which is offset by my bohemian printed romper. Who says you can’t wear a romper in the cold? Throwing on a thick coat perfectly transitions a boho summer item to an all year staple. I absolutely love the unexpected printed romper with the structured peacoat. The clash of tailored military outerwear and free spirit ‘60s print pushed the envelope for my typical simple style.

To finish off this look, I wore my ankle booties as my own take on Lepore’s reinvented platform shoes. I chose to keep the footwear and outerwear simple to offset my busy romper. Both my shoes and coat contain military-inspired details that fit perfectly along with Nanette Lepore’s fall 2015 ready-to-wear collection. Don’t be afraid to add some bohemian pieces to a more posh ensemble so that you can channel this runway look, too.

Get My Look: 1. A wool, military-inspired coat. 2. A printed dress or romper. 3. Booties.
