STYLE GURU STYLE: Smart Casual

Dallas Fashion Week is fast approaching, and when I saw the price for one general admission ticket for just one show it made me think of a) how thankful I am for Groupon and b) what I wanted to wear for the event. The dress code for one of Dallas’ most anticipated events is smart casual, but we all know the Dallas elite and the fashionable socialites are going to go all out with their outfits throughout this week. Bring on the big hair and even bigger priced suits and dresses. But the term “smart casual” kept going through my head and made me more curious as to how I could add this relaxed yet fashionable style to my wardrobe. With classes starting in just a couple of weeks, I decided to try out a smart casual look inspired by the spring 2016 menswear collection from Valentino.

The collection consisted of khaki chino pants, leather short sleeve button-downs, denim jeans and jackets, studded backpacks, military-inspired camouflage jackets and even souvenir jackets (also seen in the Louis Vuitton spring 2016 menswear collection). It was an assortment of looks inspired by different cultures and infused into one collection.

I took pieces from different looks to create my smart casual outfit. I have a light wash short sleeve denim button-down that I paired with skinny khaki pants. The sleeves of the button-down and the bottoms of the pants are rolled up to give the outfit a bit of a trendy and stylized look. Then I pulled the outfit together with a pair of tan Converse and my aviator sunglasses to add some edgier components. This look is smart enough for a night out but casual enough for class.

Get My Look: 1. Denim button-down. 2. Khaki skinny pants. 3. Tan sneakers.
