STYLE GURU STYLE: Simplified Boho

I’ve always been drawn to all things boho when it comes to fashion. It must be the inner peace-loving, earth-hugging hippie in me! The rebellious and unconventional era of the late ’60s and early ’70s definitely lent itself to a nationwide embrace of bohemian fashion in the United States. In recent years, we’ve been seeing the trends of this era resurfacing in a big way with the increasing presence of wide-leg pants, peasant tops, rounded sunglasses and leather sandals. However, this year, a more refined version of bohemian style presented itself on the runways through the ever-powerful French fashion house, Chloé. And boy is this line a breath of fresh air!

Chloé has completely captivated me over the past couple of years with their muted color schemes and sleek, yet romantic, silhouettes. This year, my infatuation has reached another level. Chloé dominated the spring 2015 ready-to-wear runway with its simplified boho look. The collection included subtle hints of ’60s and ’70s fashion with its Earthy tones, flowing silhouettes, exaggerated buttons and pockets, high waistlines and use of suede and denim fabrics. However, the line steered clear of entering the realm of the “undone hippie” look with its modern accents including intricate embroidery details, silky fabrics, dainty straps and sandals, an overall avoidance of patterns and minimalistic styling including nude lips and natural hair. With this look, Chloé brings a new sophistication to an otherwise unkempt style.

With the notion of “simplified boho” in mind, I was able to pull together a few pieces of my own to create a similar look. This forest green shift dress mimics the Earthy tones, silky fabrics and embroidered details of the Chloé collection. The neutral color and heel height of my gladiator sandals give the same effect as the dainty lace up gladiators that made a consistent appearance throughout the show. My Elizabeth James sunglasses are an added personal touch that not only tie in with the muted color scheme, but also give the look a more refined vibe with their modern shape. Finally, I kept my makeup and hair very natural for a fluidly simplistic look. Attending a graduation party? Try this look out.
