STYLE GURU STYLE: Showing Shoulders

Off-the-shoulder tops and dresses have hit the fashion scene in a major way this past spring and summer. Whether it’s at the neighborhood park or your local lunch spot, women everywhere can be seen showing off their delicate collar bones and bronzed shoulders as the style has become ubiquitous.

Drawing inspiration from the Givenchy spring 2016 ready-to-wear collection, I composed my look with little color and a highlight on the collection’s focal point: bare shoulders. The collection is minimalistic in color, using only white, black and neutral tones in the clothing. Instead, the collection draws attention to the wearer’s neckline and shoulders.

As with any summer, Fashionistas are looking for any excuse to show skin and beat the heat. For those who aren’t ready to bare all in plunging necklines and tiny crop tops, off-the-shoulder styles offer the perfect way to show off your skin in a tasteful way.

Keeping true to the neutral color palette but also to the summer season, I opted for a nude-toned light pink top for just a slight pop of color among my white skirt and taupe heels. I was able to get away with sporting a long sleeve top in the heat thanks to the off-the-shoulder feature, which kept me cool and accentuated my sun-kissed collar bones. I paired the top with a white skort, as white was a prevalent color in the collection. Finally, I finished off the look with some neutral heels to keep the outfit classy but not take away from the shoulder’s spotlight.
