STYLE GURU STYLE: Seeing the Southwest

It might be hard to believe, but summer is slowly drawing to a close, and you know what that means: strategizing a way to transition your summer wardrobe to a comfortable and cute back to school wardrobe. Keeping that in mind, I was desperate for some kind of inspiration that would be trendy for the first week of school, yet that I could still squeeze some wear out of during the home stretch of summer.

As I was browsing through several fashion runway shows in the hopes of finding the perfect outfit to recreate, I came across the Tory Burch resort 2016 collection, where I found several pieces I didn’t even realize I was craving. Although I am not too familiar with the southwestern landscape that Burch took inspiration from for this particular collection, I found the tiny prints and warm colors to be quite mesmerizing. I also took inspiration from the way that Burch’s outfit choices looked as though they could be a piece of art hanging in a museum, yet still possessed quite a casual look that could be worn basically anywhere.

With that being said, I created my outfit worn here to mock the collected and casual air of Tory Burch. While there were many looks in this specific fashion show that caught my eye, there was one outfit in particular that I felt a personal connection to. I chose a top that was similar to Burch’s in both a white color and a ruched style, because it would be the perfect glimpse into Burch’s ideal richness that runs throughout her clothing line. For this outfit, I also selected a pair of soft shorts with a detail that imitates the desert flower pattern that Burch was going for. To spice things up a bit, I chose colors such as pink, mauve and turquoise that appear in the shorts that are more in line with my personal style.

To tie this look together, I added oval drop earrings in a turquoise color in order to complement the specks of turquoise in my shorts. I also donned a pair of white canvas Sperry Top-Siders to add to the radiant and relaxing style of this outfit. All of these clothing pieces help to create a look that can easily transition from the outdoors to a classroom.

Get My Look: 1. A ruched, white top. 2. Floral shorts. 3. White canvas Sperry Top-Siders.
