STYLE GURU STYLE: Seeing Green

In my mind, you can never go wrong filling your wardrobe with neutrals, with my favorites being army green and a soft rose. They are such timeless, classy and versatile colors that keep my outfits how I like them, simple and clean. However, all of the floral prints and bright colors of summer have left me feeling a bit discontent with my very limited closet color palette. To solve my little conundrum and find inspiration for a Tuesday coffee date outfit, I looked to the Ralph Lauren spring 2015 ready-to-wear collection. I loved how used variations of the same silhouette and fabric texture for each look, but differentiated them with a bold, vibrant pop of color.

To recreate the classic Ralph Lauren looks, I opted for an army green button-up shirt dress. The dress’ military inspiration gives the universally flattering shirt-dress silhouette a bit of edge. The breezy, shiny fabric made this perfect for a sunny, summer iced coffee date. To incorporate a pop of color like Ralph Lauren, I paired the dress with a bright pair of Steve Madden coral patent leather flats. The color revitalizes a toned down palette, but keeps the outfit simple and clean.

To accessorize, I kept consistent with the idea of simple and clean being the end goal. I threw on my ultimate jewelry stable, a gold watch. I also added a three-layered gold necklace to jazz up the neckline of the dress.

Never underestimate the motto “less is more.” Limiting yourself to a few staple accessories and building a look around a neutral color scheme will make for one timeless Fashionista/o.
