STYLE GURU STYLE: Say Yes To The Lace

The incorporation of lace into an outfit automatically makes it more classy. Even simple lace detail on a casual piece like a T-shirt can make an entire look more polished and feminine. Lace is great for the warmer months, since it a breathable material. Who doesn’t like to be cool and trendy?

Stealing inspiration from Valentino’s spring 2015 couture collection, I honed in on the lace frenzy that seemed to be going on. In this collection, lace was mixed with darker colors, such as the ever-popular oxblood and dark navy, while keeping the color palette neutral. However, since it is getting warmer, I thought it would make sense to mix the lace with more eccentric colors. While I slightly swapped the color palette, I also was attracted by the use of embellishments in mediums like flower garnishes and beads.

The versatility of lace is what makes it even better. Everyone can wear lace, because it comes in almost every piece of clothing. In this look, I decided to pick the lace staple of a dress. Over top, I layered a cropped white top. To embellish the off-white/white color combination, I topped the outfit off with statement flats.

Adding a dash from the runway to an everyday look does not take a lot of effort. I went into my closet and pulled basic, staple pieces that I already had, even though I have not walked down any runways recently. But recreating looks and trends seen on the runway, I think, is what fashion is all about. My personal style is not just a certain label like preppy or grunge, but rather a mosaic compilation of everything I see.
