STYLE GURU STYLE: Sass In The City

The freezing temperatures gracing the thermometer lately have established January as one of the more fashionably challenging months. The huge puffer jackets we often resort to when the weather takes a dive tend to swallow up the style of the outfit underneath. Luckily, in their pre-fall 2015 show, Sass & Bide proves that this does not necessarily have to be the case. The show provides the edgy inspiration that makes me want to ditch the puffer and pull out all the stops in my winter wardrobe.

I was taken by a number of pieces in the show and knew I needed to find a way to incorporate them into my outfit. The leather was a must for me. I threw on my favorite American Eagle Outfitters leather jacket with silver hardware in an attempt to replicate the jacket in the collection. However, I knew I couldn’t wear just that and expect to survive the chill. I added a peacoat with leather sleeves to add even more of the particular fabricĀ and keep myself warm. I also love the look of the layered jackets over everything.

The show also included a few gray pieces, one of which was a beautiful, loose sweater. I wore a similar one over a sleek black pencil skirt. I have been obsessed with pencil skirts recently and was sold when I saw one on the runway. Of course, I had to add a pair of thick tights and my well-loved combat boots.

I wrapped things up with a cool black beanie. It goes well with the edgy chic vibe of the show and kept me warm. I slid on a pair of fitted leather gloves with sparkly accents. These gloves are the perfect winter accessory, because they are just as stylish as they are functional. Finally, I swiped on some bright pink lipstick. I love how the color stands out against the darker shades in my outfit. It adds a bit of playfulness to the edge.

Overall, I think this outfit looks super cool. It was fun to challenge myself to break out of the winter fashion black hole and come up with something that is cozy and fashionable.

Get My Look: 1. A cool black beanie. 2. A peacoat with leather sleeves. 3. A fun pair of gloves.
