STYLE GURU STYLE: Runway to Street Chic

The fashion show that took me from a girl who shops at PacSun and Forever 21 to a fashion enthusiast was Moschino’s fall 2014 collection. This 15 minute show taught me that fashion can be fun and wild. Prior to seeing it I had no idea why trends existed, how big of a deal they were and how to analyze them. I didn’t know why Forever 21 was selling the clothes they were or how to tell what was in style during that time. This fashion show grabbed my heart and made me fall in love with Moschino which led to watching many more fashion shows and now I am making fashion my career.

In a short period of time after seeing this show, I realized that Forever 21 started selling SpongeBob tops which were copies of Jeremy Scott’s. I then realized the intricacy of the process of retail. Jeremy Scott’s fashion shows take everyday things like advertisements, movie characters, animals and sewing supplies and turn them into high fashion statement pieces that speak volumes. Translating crazy ideas from runway to the streets is not easy.

In order to have quality style in everyday looks, pair pieces from runways with easy pieces so you don’t stand out too much. I suggest splurging on one statement piece like the Moschino heels I am wearing. Along with those heels, I am wearing a fresh white Equipment button-down with AG patch jeans. You can pair any statement piece with minimalist pieces to put together your look. Balancing trendy with simple will lead you to a chic silhouette.
