STYLE GURU STYLE: Ruffling Up The Summer

June 10th, 2015 at 2:00am

No matter what the season, I am always drawn to anything that seems to define the word “pretty”. A little lace here and a tinge of pink there always seems to brighten my day. While I can certainly appreciate the sharp look of a minimalist white T-shirt paired with boyfriend jeans and statement heels, I feel drawn to things that are a bit softer and glamorous. There are some designers who I follow who always dazzle me with every collection because they create things that could only make a person wearing them look more beautiful. If I look at a spread of all of the collections that these designers have ever created, I can almost guarantee that I will not be able to say that I disliked any of them. Rebecca Minkoff is one of these designers whom I admire for designing apparel that is not only wearable off of the red carpet, but so exquisite that the sidewalk could only feel like a runway.

I was inspired by the Rebecca Minkoff spring 2015 ready-to-wear collection to create this week’s look. Ruffles ran through the collection on the shoulders of tops, at the hems of dresses and skirts and on the panels of lacy tops. The frequency of ruffles was so endearing that I could not wait to wear my own ruffled top. Additionally, I could not help but adore the femininity of the soft fabrics combined with dramatic floppy hats and had to follow suit and wear a neutral floppy hat with my look. The cotton-rayon blend of my top makes it light and wearable enough for the beach, but the frilly details give it the potential to be dressed up.

I picked the latter and wore it with tailored navy blue shorts, which had a similar cut to shorts from the Rebecca Minkoff collection with nude wedges. I also added a bit of sparkle with a beaded peach bracelet, which provided a nice subtle contrast with the navy blue shorts. So if you want to dress up this summer, check out the links below to get this look!
