STYLE GURU STYLE: Red (And Black) Is The New Black

Every fashion week, there will always be one show that stands out from the rest and for spring 2015 ready-to-wear, it was Dolce&Gabbana’s. Amidst all the dainty florals and soft pastels that usually dominate spring fashion shows, D&G emerged with their striking red-and-black themed collection.

While other designers showcased soft fabrics and everyday wear, the Dolce&Gabbana spring 2015 ready-to-wear show was a fashionable take on Spanish bullfighter outfits with a dash of opulence in the form of jeweled embellishments. Add to that, polka-dots, red floral prints, lace and fringe, it’s incredible that the collection displayed so much and still maintained a wow factor in every look.

My personal favorite aspect of the collection was that it dared to be different and revolved around rich, non-typical spring colors. Although I admit that a favorite Kardashian of mine made me biased to the show, all in all, this collection showed me that red, black and jewels can be paired together without looking over the top.

I pieced together an outfit that combined D&G’s color theme while incorporating another spring 2015 trend: palazzo pants. As seen on the runways of alice + olivia and Kenzo, palazzo pants in pastel colors were huge and have always been a personal favorite of mine. However, going with the red-and-black theme, I chose a pair of palazzo pants in deep red and topped it off with a structured black bustier. Playing off the ornate embellishments heavily featured in the collection, I picked out a gold and black statement necklace and an Alexander McQueen inspired lace embroidered clutch. Finally, I topped it off with simple black heels and mimicked the show’s make-up with a swipe of red lipstick.

Get my look: 1. Red palazzo pants. 2. Gold statement necklace. 3. Lace embroidered clutch.
