STYLE GURU STYLE: Put Together Print

As I have gotten older and farther along in my academic career, I have come to realize that wearing an oversized men’s flannel around my waist and a pair of high-waisted shorts everyday might not be the way to score the career I want in the future. Now, don’t get me wrong, I’m still all about high-waisted shorts and oversized flannels, but on a day-to-day basis I tend to present myself in a more collected way.

I was recently inspired by Michael Kors spring 2015 ready-to-wear collection. This collection is filled with bright patterns and put together prints that are perfect for any young millennial on the path to their dream career. I took this inspiration and twisted it with a little bit of personal style to get this look. I have on a pair of dark wash, distressed denim jeans from American Eagle Outfitters, making the look casual enough for a day at school. I have literally been living in American Eagle Outfitter’s denim recently! Inspired by Michael Kors’ collection, I have on a loose fitting patterned blouse; perfect for a day at the office or a hectic day of classes. I absolutely love the juxtaposition between these two pieces and definitely think they showcase my personal style perfectly.

For accessories, I keep it minimal. I have on a new pair of glasses that I am absolutely infatuated with. Recently, a professor of mine told me that glasses make you look infinitely more put together in a job interview, so why not look infinitely put together all the time? Another must for me in the accessory realm is a watch. I have to wear one and if I forget about it, I’ll continue to check my wrist out of habit. I’ve had this rose gold one from Michael Kors for a while now and it has definitely become a staple in my wardrobe. For shoes, I have on a pair of heeled black booties from Target. Putting a heeled bootie on this look makes it appropriate for a casual work environment like a creative advertising agency or a casual office. To complete this look, I have a large tote bag from the brand BDG.

Get My Look: 1. A flawless pair of specs. 2. A perfectly printed blouse. 3. Divinely distressed denim.
