STYLE GURU STYLE: Punk Rox

As someone with a deep love for ’90s fashion and grunge style, I found it easy to fall in love with Faith Connexion’s resort 2016 collection. It’s not easy to find a brand that can take punk and grunge styles and make it high fashion, but Faith Connexion does this with effortless ease. Their collection focuses heavily on oversized clothing, distressed elements, chains, combat books and lots of black. They incorporate fun accessories and extras into the outfits as well, such as hats, suspenders and large flowers. I was blown away by their ability to make sequins look tough and huge combat books look feminine. Whoever designed this collection truly impresses me.

I decided to channel the Faith Connexion resort 2016 collection in this outfit. While I wished I had had my knee-high socks and trusty combat boots on hand for this outfit, they were both left behind when packing, and so I improvised. While the collection generally paired knee-high sheer tights with ripped cutoffs, I wore regular tights under my favorite ripped cut-offs to imitate the look. I also chose a loose-fitting black T-shirt and tied it at the side to give it a more casual feel. And of course, I finished the look off with my favorite piece of clothing, my oversized green flannel. Nothing says ’90s grunge like an oversized flannel. And while the resort collection did not incorporate plaid elements, many of Faith Connexion’s past collections, such as their pre-fall 2015 collection, rely heavily on it. Since I didn’t have access to my combat boots, I used my trusty black slip-ons in their place. I also channeled the ’90s grunge aesthetic into my makeup as well, wearing my beloved sparkly purple lipstick and trying out the trendy new half-up bun look. All and all, I think the whole thing came together pretty well.

Get My Look: 1. Some distressed cut-offs  2. An oversized flannel. 3. Accent with knee or over-the-knee socks.
