STYLE GURU STYLE: Posh Prints

If there’s any designer who has class and artistry down to a T, it’s Burberry. Its collections never fail to maintain that timeless, British flair that have us all planning our next trip to England’s posh cityscapes. In Burberry Prosum’s 2016 resort line, models donned perfectly tailored A-line pieces that enhanced their long, lean physiques. Characteristically, the line played with structure as well as pattern; geometrical shapes and even animal prints took precedence, one such piece including a zebra print shearling coat. The collection didn’t stray too far from the pack however; modest necklines and long hemlines created a conservative yet feminine feel. From effortless trench coats to tea length dresses, the line experimented with heavier, more durable fabrics, while compensating for potentially warm temperatures with lace and sheer detailing. Each look proved even more flawless than the next and had me itching to emulate that oh so elegant panache.

Although summertime typically induces flouncy dresses and airy fabrics, I decided to take a note from Burberry when putting together my own look. Like creating a mosaic, I love to play with different patterns and mesh them together. Here, I paired an animal print-inspired skirt with a simple white and gray striped crop top. The thick material of the skirt is offset by the lightweight, minimalistic top. The contrast of an intricate with a more simple pattern makes for the most appealing aesthetic. I absolutely fell in love with this skirt, not only for its unique patterning and coloring, but for its beautiful shape and conservative length. I kept my accessories simple, letting the details of the clothes shine. I added a brown, hand-tooled leather bag to contribute another subtle design aspect to my look. Finally, while I opted for flats, my cutout sandals mirror the look of those worn by Burberry’s own.

Get My Look: 1. A striped crop top. 2. An animal print-inspired skirt. 3. A small, hand-tooled leather bag.
